Hedgehog

We knew they were around as there’s always hedgehog poop about. A fellow plotholder even managed to photograph one in daylight once. We’ve not seen one but the night wildlife camera did. Visiting most nights, different times but enjoying scraping things from in the grass.

And this one (possibly the same one, although we may have several individuals doing the rounds each night) appears to be female (a sow) as we’re still just within the breeding season so will be keeping a look out for some hoglets on the wildlife camera one of these nights.

Beetles, worms and caterpillars seem to be their preferred food though slugs and snails are also in their diet - a few reasons why they’re considered a gardener’s friend.
The camera did pick up a few other night-time visitors…
A little mouse in the polytunnel and …
A fluffy black cat! No sign of the fox again, but fox scat has been found on site.
