Longhorn Beetle
Unfortunately I only managed to get one in-focus photo of this longhorn beetle. I thought it was a soldier beetle, but someone on a Facebook Insect group pointed me in the right direction.
I’ve still struggled to identify it, but I’m pretty sure now that it’s a Stenurella melanura. As you can see, they’re useful pollinators and are no problem on the allotment. The larvae generally eat rotten wood and probably spend most of their time in the hedge and trees.
This is the best site for checking beetle identities, but I like this one for all kinds of nature.
