Eurasian Bullfinch
We were so excited to see a pair of bullfinches on the site earlier this year.
They love this plot that has an overgrown area and is currently full of seed heads. We didn’t manage to photograph the female yet. I’m sure she’s close by, but the male is always the first to be spotted because of his amazing colouring.
Yesterday we were waiting for them to appear, we could hear their “pfoot, pfoot” call in the hedge behind us….
…when the whole family turned up!
At this age we can’t tell whether they’re male or female but we think there were 3 juveniles with the parents. I love this photo where you can see the transition from baby to adult plumage.Fabulous to see and worth keeping a few weedy seed heads on your plots for these visitors - you’re always going to have to weed anyway!
