I think this is a Small Skipper butterfly rather than one of the other three varieties of skipper that are found in the UK.
There have been a lot of these around site this year and, according to the UK Butterfly website, the adults like to get nectar from a lot of the weeds that we have round site, like vetches and brambles. I don't recognise the names of the larval foodstuffs (they didn't include vegetables!) but the light green caterpillar definitely looks familiar...
