Hover Fly Pupa and Larva
When we found these I thought they were two stages of a lacewing lifecycle. However, on further investigation it would appear that they are hover flies (
They were on our cabbages and some hover fly larvae will eat plant material but the majority seem to eat aphids and other small pests. And, as the result is a hoverfly they're welcome on the plot!
