Hover Flies
I would have said it's a sure sign of Summer when see these, but in fact we've seen hoverflies in December! There are a vast number of different varieties. This particular one appears to be a Marmalade Fly according to the fabulous All About Hoverflies website.
Hover Flies are very useful pollinators and their larvae eat aphids so are always a welcome guest. They love marigolds and calendula.
