Queen Bumblebee

This bumblebee was huge (bigger than my thumbnail) so that's why I think she's a Queen. And from the Bumblebee Conservation id chart she seems to be a buff-tailed bumblebee. You can see that it's a female because of the elbowed antenna.
I'd guess this was a newly emerged female as she was so clean and has no pollen on her hind legs. You can see how shiny her back leg is where she would store her pollen. She needs to get her mating out of the way(!) and then can hibernate underground until the Spring. Perhaps she was waiting on this runner bean leaf hoping to attract a male - she certainly wasn't camouflaged.
