White Ermine Moth Caterpillar
We've found several types of very hairy caterpillars on Marsh Lane allotments. Neal, our plot neighbour, found this one on his lettuces today.
It would appear to be a White Ermine Moth caterpillar Spilosoma lubricipeda.It has small white dots along its flanks and an orange stripe along its back, which you can see in this photo.
I hid it under a raspberry leaf and it seemed quite happy. It doesn't seem to be a big threat to veggies.
