Cinnabar Moth on Radishes

There hasn't been much wildlife on the allotment so far this year - the cold weather and the windy weather have definitely put them off though I'm pleased to say we've started seeing a lot of bees over the last week. They're mostly happy on our raspberries and on the chive flowers.

However, this is what we saw today - sitting on my radish plants which have gone to seed. It's a beautiful cinnabar moth. We've seen these on site before.
The yellow and black stripey caterpillars love groundsel and the Marsh Lane allotment site is full of that particular weed so it's a haven for these. But this is the first cinnabar moth we've seen this year.

  1. Hi Belinda, very nice picture, I've see 3 of them this week, but same as you not many insects about. Still not seen ANY honey bees.
