Small Tortoiseshell Butterfly

Another common, although declining butterfly, and is very identifiable. This is a male small tortoiseshell warming itself on the stones by our plot.

We don't see so many on the plot but on the wilder areas on site where there are nettles these are more abundant. They don't cause us any problems.
