Scarlet Tiger Moth

<Updated 23/06/2021> This beautiful scarlet tiger moth (Callimorpha dominula) was pointed out by Kerry, fellow plotholder, at the weekend. It's in lovely condition, but wouldn't open its wings to show the scarlet. Still, I thought it was such a shiny specimen that it was worth updating this post from 2012.

The sun came out and so did this beautiful scarlet tiger moth. This one has conveniently opened it's outer wings so we can see the lovely scarlet wings below and the blue sheen on the wings is gorgeous.
We've seen the caterpillars on site before, they don't seem to do too much damage, but we do protect most of our veggies with enviromesh.
