Velvet Mite

Jamie found this little spider in the earth. We thought it may be a red spider mite (bad guy) but thought it was rather large (though still pretty small).
A quick search proved that in fact it's a velvet mite Trombidium holosericeum, a good guy - eating other mites and small insects in the ground.
They hibernate in the soil through the Winter and are worth having on an allotment because they eat the eggs of beasties.
